本課程是為大二以上各學系之學生所開設，旨在透過非印刷媒體, 如電視新聞、電視節目、電影及紀錄片等提供學生進階英語聽力訓練，以期增進學生之英語聽力、字彙和發音。透過科技、醫療、國際社會及文化特性等廣泛議題的討論中，學生也將學習使用英語表達對周遭事物和時事的看法。
This course is designed to help students, sophomore or higher level, acquire advanced level of English listening skills.　Throughout the semester students will be exposed to nonprint media covering a wide range of topics and issues.　TV news, TV program, movie and documentary clips are selected to meet these ends.　The fact that in real life situation English is spoken in different accents will be stressed by introducing from time to time clips from countries other than America and Britain.　
Through in-class and take-home practices over the semester, students are expected to build a larger vocabulary, improve their pronunciation, and increase the size of their idiomatic expressions repertoire.　Students will also develop more effective communication skills as a result of the requirement to respond to class materials and their peer’s oral presentations.
A friendly learning environment will be built to ensure that diversity of opinion is always respected. Students will be also encouraged to think critically and express freely on various issues discussed in class.
