English in Nonprint Media

This course is designed to help students, sophomore or higher level, acquire advanced level of English listening skills.Throughout the semester students will be exposed to nonprint media covering a wide range of topics and issues.TV news, TV program, movie and documentary clips are selected to meet these ends.The fact that in real life situation English is spoken in different accents will be stressed by introducing from time to time clips from countries other than America and Britain.

Through in-class and take-home practices over the semester, students are expected to build a larger vocabulary, improve their pronunciation, and increase the size of their idiomatic expressions repertoire.Students will also develop more effective communication skills as a result of the requirement to respond to class materials and their peer’s oral presentations.

A friendly learning environment will be built to ensure that diversity of opinion is always respected. Students will be also encouraged to think critically and express freely on various issues discussed in class.
