Chinese Language Course Enrollment Process for New Students
Enrolled in or after the 114th Academic Year
1. General Students (including Mainland Chinese students)
Notes:
1. All students in our school are required to take a total of 4 credits of Chinese language courses. The courses are based on "respect for life and humanistic care" and cover the three major aspects of life education, classics education and language proficiency. They aim to guide students to read classics, explore themselves, care for society, and improve their writing and expression skills.
2. KMU holds Chinese proficiency pre-tests and post-tests for all freshmen before the start of the first semester and in the middle of the second semester to assess students’ levels and deficiencies in reading and writing abilities and consequently strengthen their abilities in class. The test questions are based on reading and writing.
3. According to the results of college entrance examinations, students are divided into four categories: A (advanced, 85 points or above), B (average, 75-84 points), C (needing improvement, 60-74 points), and D (failed, those who did not reach 60 points). The pre-test counts for 5% of the first-semester grade, and the post-test counts for 10% of the second-semester grade.
4. If you have taken mandatory Chinese courses offered by other universities, you can use your transcripts, course syllabus, and schedule to apply for credit transfer during the period for adding/dropping courses. The assessment results will be based on the determination of the Center for Languages and Culture. (Please download the application form from the Academic Affairs Office.)

1. Identification
a. Overseas Chinese Students: Ethnic Chinese students born overseas who have continuously resided abroad up to the present, or who have resided overseas for at least 6 consecutive years and hold permanent or long-term residency documents from their place of residence abroad, returning to Taiwan for study. They do not qualify as overseas Chinese students and must have continuously resided overseas for at least 6 years at the time of application (for those intending to study in medical, dental, or traditional Chinese medicine programs, the required continuous residency period is 8 years or more). Included in this category are those who have held R.O.C. nationality and meet the following conditions: (1) They have never had household registration in Taiwan; (2) They previously held R.O.C. nationality but no longer do at the time of application, having fulfilled the 8-year residency requirement since losing R.O.C. nationality as permitted by the Ministry of the Interior; (3) They have never studied in Taiwan as an overseas Chinese student and have not been allocated by the University Entrance Committee For Overseas Chinese Students in the current academic year.
