世界文化的窗口
This advance level English reading course will strengthen students' reading and writing skills while introducing cultures of different times and places. Critical thinking, enhancing imagination, learning to make inferences, and bolstering self-confidence are primary goals.
Students will be introduced to world literature which has been selected for universal themes. They will write each week, preferably using vocabulary covered in class, to ascertain whether they have grasped the correct usage of such words. Students will also read aloud in class. This helps overcome a reluctance to use English in public, thereby resulting in greater self-confidence while also permitting the instructor to catch/correct any problems with enunciation, pronunciation or intonation.
Due to the advanced level of this class, suitable textbooks in reasonable price ranges were/are not readily available. Consequently, this class will use either material which can be freely and legally downloaded form the Internet, or handouts that fall in the "fair use" category.
